STAFF at Oxfam in Okehampton have got creative and penned a poem about the impending refurbishment of their Fore Street shop.
The idea behind the poem, which has been put on display in the shop window, is to inform customers before the shop closes for a fortnight on October 16 for the major spruce-up.
The ode reads:
?After 20 years in Okehampton Town
Your superstore is worn right down
Peeling paint, bent bits and pieces
Your gifts and spending amazingly never ceases
Hard-working volunteers who have loads of fun
Helping poverty and suffering to be overcome
We will be back: bright, shiny and new
On November 1st, when we will be seeing you?
Jackie Theobald, Oxfam Okehampton shop manager said the branch was just outside the top 100 performing shops of Oxfam?s 800 premises nationwide, which was a great achievement for such a small town.
Jackie said the shop?s owed its success to the hard work of the 40 volunteers on its books.
?However, we are always looking for more people, particularly those with computer or other specialist skills,? she said.
Jackie said after two decades, she felt the shop was long over-due a refurbishment.
?The high street has changed in 20 years. We want to make it a more pleasant and modern shopping experience for the community,? she said.
