I THINK that I am the most recent member of the Tavistock Car Club. I was prompted to join the club, because each time I passed the Guildhall Car Park I noticed the 'E-cocar', or rather intriguingly, its absence.
When my second car died a few months ago, signing up to co-own a car, rather than buying my own replacement, was very attractive financially. It looked slightly complicated, but turned out to be very simple, and using the car has been really straightforward.
But then the car vanished from its spot. It turns out that Tavistock Town Council had given permission for the car to be parked there for three months, and that period had lapsed. Now, the council has extended its period of support for this community-based and eco-friendly scheme for another six months, at a much reduced rate.
So, by the time this letter is published, the car should be back in the centre of town, visibly promoting this great scheme and being easy to find (or hard to miss!).
So I am saying 'well done' to the town council for showing that you are there promoting community enterprise, taking on new ideas, and able to support new sustainable ways of doing things.
