AS I sit and read the front page article 'Parents split over college closures' the light rain over Horrabridge is thawing the last of the snow and ice from the pavements and roads.

Our own school in Horrabridge opened after the Christmas break on the scheduled date, the 4th and remained open throughout the bad weather. Acting headteacher John Clarke managed to get in from Buckland whilst other staff managed the journey from Bere Alston, Gunnislake, Roborough and Tavistock, the most amazing journey being made every day by our Breakfast Club manager, who travels from Saltash to be at school by 7am.

Not all could reach the school by car so cars were parked where roads had been gritted and the remainder of the journey made on foot. Children that are normally driven were walked to school by parents or carers, thereby reducing the 'school run'.

It is true to say that most of our children live locally and not all attended, however, one family managed to arrive from Milton Abbot.

On arrival a quick assessment of staff and children was made, classes rearranged, kitchen started cooking with what was available and school carried on with some form of normality.

The governing body wishes to thank all staff for their perseverance and commitment to the children and Horrabridge CPS during the recent bad weather. Well done, everyone.
