AT a recent meeting of Transition Tavistock at the United Reformed Church, Tavistock, we noticed that their toilet had been twinned with a toilet in Burundi (ie, they had funded the construction of a toilet there).

The Transition movement has a concern for environmental sustainability and Transition Tavistock has essentially a local focus. However, it was good to be reminded by the church that we live on a worldwide map. While we seek to reduce our consumption of fossil fuels and to conserve natural resources, others are struggling to create a basic lifestyle under the effects of climate change and man-made devastation.

As we remember those who struggle to acquire both water and basic hygiene facilities, it may encourage all of us to take our concern for the environment more seriously.
