AN INCREASED income to the Okehampton United Charity and the Okehampton Educational Foundation has resulted in many grants for local projects this year. The united charity has allocated £25,000 each to the building of the pavilion in Simmons Park and the refurbishment of the Ockment Centre. The Wren Trust has been promised £12,000 towards their Songtales project subject to the balance of funds being obtained from the lottery. Smaller grants have been given to support Okehampton Argyle Football Club, the Battle of the Bands, Dartmoor Museum, Okehampton Community Hospital and Simmons Bowling Club. Organisations supporting young people, including the youth centre, the Youth Intervention Support Programme and the Pinpoint counselling service have all been awarded substantial grants from the education foundation. Individual grants totalling just over £14,000 have been made this year to young people for further education and a variety of educational activities.
