ACCESS to the high moorland of Dartmoor has received a welcome boost thanks to local businesses.
Dartmoor National Park’s Donate for Dartmoor scheme has just received more than £500, generated by the sale of Dartmoor Business Network calendars.
The Dartmoor Business Network connects local businesses on Dartmoor with surrounding cities and towns and meets on Dartmoor every other first Wednesday of the month from 8am to 9.30am.
Donate for Dartmoor was nominated the group’s charity of the year and money raised by the sale of the calendars will be a welcome boost to the work being carried out on the popular Nun’s Cross path.
Nun’s Cross path is a key project for the Donate for Dartmoor fundraising scheme. Focussed on improving access along this well-used path across a spectacular area of high moorland from Princetown over Eylesbarrow and down to the road near Gutter Tor.
The Nun’s Cross route is popular with walkers, horse riders and mountain bikers and Dartmoor National Park is carrying out path restoration, repairs and improvements, along with moorland restoration work, to limit erosion. Funds from Donate for Dartmoor are supporting this restoration work.
Once complete, this will provide a 20km circular, high quality, sustainable walking and cycling route from Princetown, boosting tourism and the local economy.
