A BRAND new website is due to go live next week, aimed at encouraging and attracting young players to Tavistock Rugby Club.
The website was created by Simon O'Connor-Thompson, an assistant junior coach at the club.
Simon said the site would contain details of training, fixtures and results, contact numbers and a location map — it will also be linked to the senior club's website. A brief history of the development of junior rugby at Tavistock RFC is also in the pipeline.
'Hopefully it will be developed with other features as time goes on,' said Simon.
Bob Law, chairman of the club, hoped the new site would bring to a wider audience the facilities and opportunities on offer at TRFC, which launched a recruitment drive this season.
'We're looking for players across the board. We want to raise awareness and make sure people know about us — for example, there must be dozens of kids out there who maybe had not thought of playing but could have loads of talent,' he said.
Senior sides practise on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 7pm with matches on Saturdays. Junior teams practise and play fixtures on Sunday mornings, while the ladies play on Sunday afternoons.
All players are very welcome — also those who may not play any more but would like to help coach senior or junior teams.
And the club at Sandy Park does not just provide sporting opportunities — many social events are held on a regular basis, including discos and parties. The clubhouse is also available for private hire.
This Saturday a quiz night has been organised. Teams of up to six are welcome to enter at just £1 per person, including light refreshments — the fun starts at 7.30pm.
Anyone who would like to know more about the club should call Bob Law on 01822 890620. The junior website can be found at http://www.tavistock-rugby.org.uk">www.tavistock-rugby.org.uk
