THE recent dry spell came to an end just in time for local gardeners, ensuring a bumper number of entries in Sampford Courtenay and Honeychurch Flower, Produce and Craft Show.

Held on Saturday, August 14, in the village hall, there were 60 exhibitors and more than 500 entries, a marvellous achievement for these small villages.

Presenting the prizes was West Devon Borough Cllr David Weeks, and again, Sam Robertson won the Cleverdon Memorial Cup for the highest overall points, but there was stiff competition from runner-up Stephanie Perrott and Bill Robertson in third place.

Other prizes, awarded for the highest number of points in each section were: Pipers Cup for vegetables: 1, Bill Robertson; 2, Sam Robertson; 3, Malcolm Craig.

Presidents Cup for homecraft: 1, Sandra Harper; 2, Kaye Hodge; 3, Jeanette Baker.

Hawking Bowl for fruit: joint 1, Stephanie Perrott and Sam Robertson; joint 3, Les Beer and T and G Townsend-Green.

Cup for flowers: 1, Sam Robertson; 2, T and G Townsend-Green; 3, Marilyn Weeks.

Cup for produce: 1, Christine Stoneman; 2, Malcolm Craig; 3, Colin Coleman.

Children?s under 16 shield: joint 1, Nicola Stoneman and Emily Thommes; 3, Clare Weeks.

Children?s under 12 shield: 1, Andrew Sercombe; 2, Stephanie Perrott; 3, Julia Owen.

Children?s under 8 shield: 1, Matthew Baker; joint 2, Ethan Baker, Robert?s children and Harry Tickner.

First time entry award: 1, Emily Thommes; 2, Christopher Porter; joint 3, Matthew Baker and Harry Tickner.

The following were thanked for their donations towards the event; Bow Aquatic and Garden Centre, Lamisell Ltd, Station Farm, W J Morris and Sons, the New Inn, Glanbia Foods Ltd and Highridge Farm.
