TAVISTOCK had less rain last year than the previous two years with an exceptionally low level during August, September and October.
In 2003 Tavistock had 45.97 inches of rainfall compared with a massive 70.85 in 2002 and 53.64 in 2001, said weather enthusiast David Thomas, a member of the Royal Meteorological Society who records measurements from his garden in Violet Lane.
The wettest month was November with 5.82 inches and the driest was August with 0.64 inches. April 27 was the wettest day with 1.49 inches.
From the beginning of August to the end of October only 2.6 inches of rain fell on Tavistock.
The coldest day was January 8 when the maximum temperature was 0.5 degrees centigrade and the coldest night was January 12 when it dipped to -6 degrees.
August 9 was the hottest day when Tavistock basked in 31 degrees and the following day the all-time British temperature record was broken at Brogdale in Kent when temperatures reached 38.5 degrees.
It just shows how much warmer it can get during the summer in the South East of England than the South Western Peninsula.
