AFTER a week or two of rain and autumn temperatures. members of Bere Alston Trekkers (Bats) thought there would be more of the same for the 6 Moor Miles off-road race at the weekend. However, as is usual when the the Bats are racing, the sky cleared and the temperature rose for the duration of the race. The route is a one-lap course on the Maristow Estate across open moorland. There are a number of hills and some areas are narrow enough to make the progress slow as athletes picked their way through tree roots and negotiated some fairly deep ponded areas resulting in very wet — but cool — feet. There were four course debuts: Dave and Pam Adams, Ralph Elmes and Bridget Macdonald who all ran good times. First male Bat home was Laurence Sargeant and first lady Bat home was Dotty Allan who achieved a course personal best.  Sue Collins and Laurence Sargeant also achieved course personal bests.
