THERE's an opportunity to learn about ideas and projects in West Devon with a new 'Communities in Action' website. 'Communities in Action' gives easy on-line access to information on topics such as housing, the environment, employment and business and shows how local communities are tackling these issues. Many of West Devon's communities have produced plans setting out a vision for the future of their towns and parishes. West Devon Borough Council has been working closely with partners across the county to make these plans accessible through the internet. As well as containing details about the 55 towns and parishes in West Devon that have already completed local plans, the website also holds data from parishes across the whole county. By capturing all this information in one place communities will be able to track the progress of projects; identify similar projects in other communities and search for funding opportunities. The database will also help to identify projects across Devon that may be of interest to other organisations such as local authorities, the police and Government organisations, reducing duplication and improving the chances of important projects being delivered for West Devon's communities. Cllr James McInnes, chairman of West Devon's local strategic partnership and leader of the borough council, said: 'The new website is an ideal way for people to see just what's happening in their area and gives them a perfect opportunity to feed in to what is planned. 'I really hope that the website sparks people's imagination and shows them that they can get involved in their community and have a true say on how it should be developed.' The database is funded by Devon Renaissance, Devon Towns Forum, the Community Council of Devon, the Strategic Partnerships of Devon and the District Councils.
