IN past seasons Tavistock have run up easy wins against these Cornish neighbours, but a depleted squad and a much improved scrummaging performance from Liskeard meant the home side did well to get a draw.
The first half saw Liskeard playing with the strong wind at their backs and most of the action took place in the Tavistock half. Muddy conditions made running at speed difficult, but Liskeard?s backs still managed to find gaps to score two tries. More might have ensued but for fine tackling by Lawson, Whiteford, Burton and Thompson.
In the second half Tavistock mostly kept Liskeard in their own half and from rucks close to the try-line first Friend and then Jenns barged their way over to score, with Campbell?s first conversion bouncing off the post.
Tavistock kept up the pressure with good runs from Vella, Jeffrey, Shutler and Walker in the forwards and Broome, Gaye and Ewing in the backs. New member Maund played valiantly in the back row.
In the closing minutes Liskeard had a series of penalties close to the Tavistock line, but determined defence kept them out.
