I WAS saddened to read the letter 'In praise of hurler of green slime' in the Okehampton Times (March 19), in which the actions of Leila Deen, the person who hurled green slime at Lord Mandleson was not only condoned but praised. It then went on to suggest we need her here in Okehampton.

We may not always agree with Government proposals or indeed many issues, but as civilised adults we should be capable of expressing our disapproval without resorting to hurling physical or verbal abuse.

Do we really want to see that kind of behaviour on our streets? If we want future generations to live in a peaceful world we should all be promoting consultation and dialogue, not acts of mindless confrontation.

If we applaud actions such as those of Leila Deen it could encourage demonstrations to be staged with no concern for the consequences. Personally I believe we have too much conflict in the world already without recruiting more.
