I AM writing to reply to Mr Young?s letter in last week?s Times reference the moving of the war memorial. The war memorial is not a war grave but a memorial to the people of the town who made the ultimate sacrifice. The official war graves are in the foreign fields that Mr Young mentioned in his letter, or at sea for the members of the Royal and Merchant Navies whose bodies were never recovered. If the sight of the war memorial is sacred what an insult on Wednesday, Goose Fair Day when a monstrosity of a machine was placed alongside the memorial. We?ve held a referendum in the town reference this matter and the town were 83% in favour for its removal to the place it was intended, the churchyard. I wrote on this matter four months ago, saying who honestly wants their loved ones remembered between a public toilet and a car park! Roddie Meredith School Close Greenlands
