Uplyme and Lyme Regis

v Whitchurch firsts

A 140 mile round trip to Uplyme was always going to be testing for the Wayfarers. Once again the bowling lacked penetration and Uplyme, batting first, were able to rack up a massive 287 runs.

A flurry of wickets when Webb (46-3) came on to bowl provided the only respite as Uplyme kept up a steady rate of over 5 runs per over.

In reply Whitchurch found getting runs far harder. After 20 overs they had only lost two wickets but were on 65-2 compared to Uplymes 115-2 at the same stage.

Winning the game was clearly not a realistic prospect but the chances of hanging on for a draw were good. Richard Hall with 41 was the main run getter this week. Four other higher order batsmen made it into the 20's without going on to make a big score as Caddy  (19-3) and Battey (36-4) made life difficult.  The tail end were mopped up five overs shy of the maximum. Although a heavy defeat Whitchurch took away six points when all the teams around them gained fewer.

The next match against bottom team Ottery will see a  real opportunity to move up the table.
