Devon League D division Woodland Fort v Whitchurch Wayfarers DESPITE having an understrength side, Whitchurch Wayfarers recorded a well deserved winning draw away at Woodland Fort.. Skipper Barriball lost the toss and his side were invited to bat first on an unsurprisingly damp track. Whitchurch got off to the worst possible start losing Smith in the first over. Credicott and Daymond steadied the ship with some patient batting and aggressive running, picking off the singles and pressurising the fielders. Together they added 91 in 28 overs to set a solid platform for the rest of the team to build on. Daymond then fell for 41, but Credicott continued to push before holing out for 43. A few lusty blows from Barriball upped the run rate before a stunning running catch from Mackay ended his knock. Youngsters Churchill (25) and Sherrell (14) kept the scoreboard moving as Whitchurch passed 175, before a lower order collapse saw Whitchurch dismissed off the final ball for 180. In reply, Woodland Fort never got out of the blocks. Tight, accurate bowling from Lavis and Daymond, ably backed up by Sambells, meant the game meandered, with Fort showing no intent to go for the win. Tibbs typified the Plymouth side?s effort, batting 36 overs for just 24 runs. Daymond and Lavis each took three wickets as Woodland Fort struggled to 120 for the losing draw. Banks (36) and Burnett (16no) hit a few boundaries in the latter overs, as Whitchurch attacked in vain for the final wickets and Woodland Fort closed on 137 for 7. Whitchurch took 13 well earned points. l Next week Whitchurch first team entertain Ipplepen, whilst the seconds travel to Bideford.
