The presentation night of the senior part of Whitchurch Wayfarers Cricket club was recently held at the club.
The second team have had a hard season and were relegated on the final day of the season. Skipper Marc Kerswell worked tirelessly during the season just to get a full complement of players onto the pitch, but the youngsters that did play all coped admirably.
A shortage of runs was the prime problem, but with a side that at the start of the season could not count a league 50 between them, the response has been encouraging.
'Josh Meadows was in a class of his own and won the best batsman award, scoring a century and four 50s in amassing more than 400 runs for the season.
The best bowler award was won by Owen Griffiths, who had an economy rate of under three per over, while taking 12 wickets.
The captain's player award went to Joe Trembath, who was ever willing to play in either team at short notice and gave his all.
The first team started the season slowly, but finished a creditable sixth. Most pleasing were the number of youngsters that stepped up from second team cricket to establish themselves in the first team. With a few experienced players this team should be pushing for promotion next season.
Martyn Credicott won the best batsman award for the third year in a row and the best bowler was Joel Heatley.
The captain's player award and the most improved player was won by Dom Rushton.
The ladies have struggled this season after losing several key players. Batswoman of the year was Lesley Smith and bowler of the year Cathy Griffin.
The John Jackson fielder of the year award was presented to Tom Sherrell.
The clubman of the year trophy was presented to Chris Meadows who has worked tirelessly for the club in administration, behind the bar and in keeping the field looking so good.
Neil Tamblin, the club chairman, said: 'Chris will be leaving the club due to work commitments and along with several other committee members will be sorely missed in 2010.'
