DESPITE one of the wettest summers on record there is increasing pressure on Dartmoor's water from Devon's expanding population and from predicted climate change.
The future of this precious resource will be the subject of the Dartmoor Society's eleventh annual public debate on Saturday, September 27 in Meldon Village Hall.
To find out just how healthy Dartmoor's rivers are, what happens if the giant sponge of blanket peat dries out or what effect hydro-electric schemes might have go along to what promises to be a lively and fascinating debate.
Director of the Devon Wildlife Trust Paul Gompertz will be chairing the meeting and the speakers will include Mike Hedges of the Dartmoor Society, Andy Hingston of South West Water and Simon Bates from Natural England.
The cost of the day to include coffee, a buffet lunch and tea is £12 for non-members of the Dartmoor Society and £10 for members. Contact 01822 617004 for more information.
