IT?S a sure sign that spring cannot be too far around the corner ? the sign is up ? the frogs have returned to the Ranelagh Road pond.

Okehampton frog watcher David Wright, who lives opposite the pond, said about 20 of the little creatures are back in their watery home ? and some are already beginning to spawn.

David, who voluntarily looks after the pond and keeps it free of rubbish, said: ?The frogs have been there about a week now. The frog notice is now up and people just need to be careful when they are driving past at night, because the frogs walk across the road to get to the pond.?

David is planning a spring clean of the pond in the near future and said he would be ?very grateful? to hear from any volunteer individuals or groups who would like to lend a hand.

?They?d need waders but it wouldn?t take very long ? it would only be about half a day?s work,? said David.

Anyone who would like to smarten up the frog habitat should contact David Wright on 01837 52927.
