IN last week's edition of the Times, Ann Silcox challenges the upcoming changes to West Devon Borough Council's recycling and refuse collection services which were detailed in the West Devon Connect magazine.
The changes include many improvements to the service, such as weekly food and garden waste collections and recycling of plastic bottles from the kerbside for all households.
These weekly collections will significantly reduce the volume of waste which householders currently put out as refuse. As food waste will no longer be put into black sacks and will be collected separately on a weekly basis, it's unlikely that the residual waste will produce odours.
I would urge residents to refer to the article to see for themselves the full extent of the changes and how they will be implemented. Further information will be delivered to individual households before any changes are made.
The environmental services team at the borough council are very willing to explain to Ms Silcox how the new service, which will collect her food waste and recycling every week, will be an improved one for all West Devon residents. Currently Tavistock and Okehampton are the only areas to benefit from weekly food waste collections.
Many roadshows are planned over the coming months where council staff will be on hand to answer questions and we are happy to attend meetings to give fuller explanations of the new services.
