Devon League
Whitchurch v Exeter South
WHITCHURCH put in an improved performance for this league game on Monday.
They won the toss and were soon in the wickets, Louis (2-14) reducing the visitors to 9 for 3.
A stand of 82 between Lewis (55) and Hitchcock (44no) restored things for South before Davies returned to take 4 for 31.
A quickfire 30no from Trehorne ensured South posted a challenging total of 151.
In reply, Whitchurch posted an improved batting performance. The star was again Chappell with a classy 47 before holing out to a running one-handed catch from Hitchcock.
30no from Warwick meant Whitchurch eased home with 5 wickets and 10 overs to spare to claim 19 points.
This week Whitchurch entertain divisional favourites Roborough on Saturday and have a friendly against Keyham on Sunday.
Whitchurch v Dawlish
THE season started in the worst possible way for the first XI away at Dawlish.
A below par performance with few highlights left Whitchurch beaten by 133 runs.
Louis (2-60) gave his side the perfect start with a breakthrough off the fourth ball. However, 26 from Hammett and 62 from Walker helped Dawlish build the platform for a lower order onslaught.
A rapid 43 from Home resulted as Dawlish passed the 200 mark. Alford picked up 4 wickets in his second spell as Dawlish posted a total of 221.
The reply from Whitchurch was woeful. Phillips (3-21), Kidney (3-17) and Lockyer (2-23) went through the batting with ease. Only 52 from skipper Chappell showing any resistance as Whitchurch crumbled to 88 all out in 29 overs.
