TAVISTOCK Twinning Association welcomed 26 visitors from its twin town of Celle in Germany recently.

The visitors stayed as guests of the twinners and enjoyed a busy and varied programme of activities.

The German guests made traditional Cornish pasties, cooked by Elliss Bakery, and a formal meal at Tavistock Golf Club where David Turner, the new town crier, gave a welcoming address in German.

The visitors also went for a morning walk on Dartmoor, visited the prison museum and the Moorland Visitor Centre and enjoyed a barbecue and skittles evening in Chipshop.

Mayor of Tavistock David Whitcomb, who had been in Celle a few weeks earlier, gave a reception at the town hall.

Twinning association members are looking forward to their return visit to Celle next year.

The association welcomes new members who would like to join in with the programme of exchanges with Celle and Pontivy, together with their social and fundraising activities.

Anyone interested in joining, can contact Mark Sculthorp on 01822 859212 for more details.
