HOT on the heels of the fantastic sell-out success of Annie, North Tawton?s thriving young theatre group is looking for a few more mature members to swell its numbers.

Three of YANTS?s oldest members left recently and producer Wendy Hill is on the lookout for some keen young thespians to join the fun.

YANTS has been in existence as a specific youth theatre group for about four years now.

Wendy said: ?It?s based on fun, though there is the discipline of commitment to the group, but everyone enjoys themselves, all the kids have a say in what we?re doing, it?s all a joint effort.

?You don?t have to be a singer or dancer to join, you could be interested in anything: sound, lighting,

costume ? it?s very good practise for any kids thinking of going into the drama field.?

There are about 36 members of YANTS at the moment, ranging from 10 years of age. The upper limit is 21, provided they are in full time education.

?We?re specially looking for some boys, or girls, in the 14-16 age group, which we?re very short of at the moment,? said Wendy.

?To put on a big production you do need some older ones to carry it through, although we have some very talented youngsters up and coming.?

YANTS meets on the last Tuesday of every month. There are regular workshops held by specialists either from North Tawton?s adult drama group, ANTS, or from outside specialists. The next workshop will be on March 25 taken by John Somers, professor of drama at Exeter University.

?We also do trips occasionally. We?re trying to get a behind-the-scenes visit to a theatre organised at the moment, and we?re hoping to hold some concert parties around the villages,? said Wendy.

Anyone who is interested in any aspect of drama, whether it is behind the stage work like special effects or make up, or on-stage performing, is welcome to come along and find out what YANTS is all about. For details telephone Wendy Hill on 01837 82071.
