CAMPAIGNERS for world justice will be holding a walk on Dartmoor this Saturday, timed to coincide with the World Trade Organisation meeting in Cancun, Mexico this week.
The campaigners will be using the sights and sounds of Dartmoor to guide discussions about water supply, mining, armaments, agriculture, tourism and other world trade issues which all have a bearing on poor people in poor countries.
Sue Errington, one of the organisers, said: ?We hope lots of people will come and join us on this walk. We will be discussing trade issues as we walk and we hope to make contact with people in other parts of the UK and overseas to hear their views.
?We will use text messaging and phoning to speak to people in Uganda, South Africa, Mali, India and other places, so people with mobile phones are very welcome!?
The walk follows demonstrations held by trade justice campaigners in June. In Tavistock, supporters held scales above their heads to demonstrate their desire to see greater equality in trade.
Anyone who would like to join the Devon Trade Justice walk should be at Shipley Bridge car park (leave the A38 at South Brent) at 10.30am on Saturday September 13. There will be two walks, one of four miles and one of eight to ten miles, but everyone will have lunch together. Bring a picnic, walking shoes and appropriate clothes ? well behaved dogs welcome.
