A GO-KART stolen from Okehampton Air Cadets premises has been found, thanks to an article in the Okehampton Times last week.

It was located by walker Jason Woodman who discovered it beneath bracken and bramble on the cycle track near Okehampton Camp.

Although the item, which was valued at £750 and built as an education project by cadets, is severely damaged, the members hope they can restore it to its orginial condition.

Okehampton Air Training Corps leader Michelle Freeburn said Mr Woodman had seen the go-kart, which was stolen from a shed at the training base on March 5, on the Sunday before the article was printed but thought nothing of it.

'He walks this route regularly but it was not until he read about the go-kart in the newspaper that he realised what he had seen could be the missing item,' she said.

'When he returned it had gone from that position but was found further along the cycle track wrapped up in a blanket and buried beneath bracken. We think some kids must have been using it on the cycle track.'

Mrs Freeburn said she was very grateful to Mr Woodman and others who had helped in the go-kart's recovery.

The cadets had spent the 18 months working on the go-kart as part of an engineering project towards a BTEC in aviation and were 'devastated' when it was stolen.

'We really did not think we would see it again so I am just so pleased we have got it back, albeit in a bit of a state,' added Michelle.

'WIth some more fundraising we hope it will be as good as new again.'
