OKEHAMPTON mayor Cllr Jan Goffey received a cheque from Waitrose’s Community Matters fund for £220 to go towards the Queen’s 90th birthday picnic in the park on June 12.

The store also donated 200 cups for the cream teas and Vicki Mills from Waitrose made a personal donation of a Queen’s birthday cake as first prize in the fancy dress competition for primary school children.

The mayor said: ‘Thanks to Waitrose for their wonderful green token scheme whereby shoppers can decide which local charity is supported by Waitrose every month. I regret I am too old to enter the fancy dress competition because the cake looks exceedingly scrummy!’
