PEOPLE eagerly awaiting the opening of the new Fairplace Toilets will have to keep their legs crossed until the New Year.

The old loos closed a year ago to make way for an enhancement project for Fairplace Gardens and work began on replacing the loos in May this year.

West Devon Borough Council had expected the work to be completed earlier but delays occurred due to the complex process of entering a Party Wall Agreement with the residents of Peel House, which neighbours the toilets.

The £100,000 scheme to revamp Fairplace Gardens includes major landscaping work and seating to make the site an enjoyable place to sit as well as a pleasant walkway to the post office.

A decision was taken by the borough council to build the toilet block closer to Peel House and do away with the alleyway at the back to deter vandalism and anti-social behaviour.
