A WEST Devon National Trust property needs extra manpower to help maintain its extensive grounds for the benefit of 65,000 annual visitors.

Lydford Gorge. 114 acres of broadleaf woodland, riverside walks, rock faces, waterfalls and ravine, has two full-time wardens who need a number of volunteers to give up one day a week to carry out duties such as grass cutting, assisting visitors, helping with walks and talks and picking up litter.

During the closed season the volunteers will be required to conduct footpath and riverbank repairs.

Applicants must be physically fit as the work is often of an arduous nature, living locally and able to travel.

Benefits will include travel expenses and free entry to many National Trust properties.
