FOURTEEN Tidy Tavi volunteers were delighted to be able to meet in the Meadowlands Café for the first time before setting out to pick up litter last Saturday. Complimentary tea and coffee were kindly provided by 1Life and Dave Smith, the centre manager, armed himself with a litter picker and came along to help as well. A spokesman for Tidy Tavy said: 'As one regular volunteer pointed out, the co-operative venture with 1Life is not just good news for Tidy Tavi, but is also entirely appropriate, as a couple of hours out litter picking is a very good way to take gentle exercise in line with 1Life's aim of inspiring communities through health and wellbeing. It's also a great way to make friends and meet people! 'Another piece of wonderful news concerning Tidy Tavi is that the group has been nominated by Tavistock BID for an 'In Your Neighbourhood' award by Britain in Bloom for its work in the community. 'Many people are unaware that Britain in Bloom is not just concerned with the floricultural aspects of towns and villages, but also with many other aspects of community life in general. Tidy Tavi volunteers will be cleaning signage and generally sprucing up parts of Tavistock prior to the visit of Britain in Bloom judges next week.' The next Tidy Tavi litter picking foray will take place on Saturday, August 2. If you would like to come and help, please meet at the Meadowlands Café at 10am. Bring some stout gloves, all other necessary equipment will be supplied.
