Devon League B Division Tavistock 2nd XI v Chudleigh 2nd XI AFTER some poor performances Tavistock were looking to bounce back with their visit to Chudleigh. Both teams believed the wicket would crumble but both were wrong with only a few low bounces in the second innings. Chudleigh won the toss, and were soon in trouble from an inspired spell by Brett Thomas, whose opening salvo was eight overs, four for nine. He was well supported by W Downham (0-26) and S Gliddon (1-25). Dave Downham and Dave Jefferys also bowled well and only 96 from Australian Tim Smith gave Chudleigh a respectable 160 for 9. Tavistock got off to a good start with John and Strawbridge putting on 35 for the first wicket, John ?done? by the bounce for 13. Strawbridge continued to be aggressive particularly against the spin of Clarke. Strawbridge eventually fell for 57, sharing a partnership of 83 with captain McGahey. McGahey and D Downham saw Tavistock home with 11 overs to spare, McGahey ending 60 not out and delighted with a vital 19 points which lifts Tavistock to fifth in the table.
