THE poor weather may have contributed to what was a very messy opening to the game, with Kingsbridge and Salcombe taking advantage of an early break and scoring within the first ten minutes.
However after a short break following an injury, Okehampton Ladies upped their game and centre forward Jo Moppet soon drilled the ball into the attacking circle and it deflected off a defender's stick into the back of the net levelling the scores. Despite some persistent attacking by both teams the score stayed at 1-1 until half time.
The second half opened well for Okehampton Ladies, who were awarded a long corner which Hannah Whitely received and passed around the circle, until Jo Moppet used her reverse stick skills to score, bringing Okehampton into the lead. Despite superb defending from right back Debbie Pritchard and centre half Jane Jones, Kingsbridge and Salcombe soon scored again.
They were then awarded a number of short corners which were well defended by Okehampton ladies who did not allow them to convert these opportunities.
But despite a number of breaks up both wings, particularly by captain Alex Collins who showed both skill and determination, Okehampton were unable to score again and the speed and team work of Kingsbridge and Salcombe paid off.
