A LONG awaited project to revamp the play park on Stoke Climsland Village Green will start on August 3 and is expected to take ten days.

Grants and fundraising by many community organisations means that the old and dilapidated equipment can be replaced with 17 new items.

The project will cost £35,000, which is half the target set by Stoke Climsland Parish Council, but it was decided to go ahead and do more at a later date if more money is raised.

Parish councillor Michael Cox said everyone was really looking forward to the project as it had first been talked about 18 months ago. The park is used by many local children including children from the local primary school, who have help raise funds towards it.

'Much of the equipment that is there has reached the end of its life and the new items will cater for ages from three to 14.,' said Mr Cox.

'We will also be keeping the swing frame and putting in new seats and chains.'

The scheme being implemented by Schoolscapes of Wadebridge will include a central play tower, pendulum swing, seesaw, springers and a trail of bridges, beams and rope walks.

Acting headteacher of Stoke Climsland Primary School Sian Vaughan said: 'The children are really excited that all the village's efforts are coming to fruition and they will have some lovely new equipment to play on on the village green.

'The green is in the centre of the village and the majority of our pupils make good use of the facilities there. We had a sponsored run there last year and we have raised about £2,300 towards the project.'
