VILLAGERS from Stoke Climsland have been donning their aprons in an effort to raise cash for the Tsunami Disaster Appeal. The Week of Breakfasts held at The Old School has raised almost £6,000 in five days and it has proved so successful that the team is to continue cooking until Sunday, culminating with a Malaysian brunch. Organiser Juliette Memmott said that they had served around 200 breakfasts each day and hoped to reach a target of £10,000 at the weekend. ?The breakfasts cost £3 but people have been really generous and have been donating much more money than that,? she said. ?We have had a team of volunteers coming in every day, I think about 50 volunteers have come down overall. Everybody has been really generous with their time and effort ? it?s been a real community effort and the whole community has really worked together.? The team intends to continue fundraising for another month and plans to hold early suppers or have a soup kitchen set up in the village. So far, all the food served has been donated by local suppliers but the group is in need of chicken, beef, fresh fruit and vegetables, bacon and eggs. ?So far everything has been given to us by local butchers, village shops and farms but we can?t keep going back to the same suppliers. We particularly need things for the brunch,? said Mrs Memmott. Bookings for the Malaysian brunch, which will take place between 9am and 2pm on Sunday, should be made by calling The Old School on 01579 370493.
