PRINCETOWN's second annual charityball at the village centre was a resounding success last month, with around 100 guests at the sell-out event.

The ball raised an incredible £3,000, with some money still coming in.

Main organisers Karen and Les Parr said they were thrilled at how well the event went. Karen said: 'Last year was hailed a success, but this year was even better!

'I'd like to say a big thank you all the many people who helped.'

Les said: 'People told us that this was the best ball they'd ever been to — so watch out next November for Ball number three!

'We're hoping to get a licence to run till a little later next time, and find a way of getting a few more guests in.

'I feel very proud that a hundred locals raised such a fantastic amount – which we will divide two thirds to the Royal Marines Charitable Trust Fund and a third to the Princetown Pre School.'

The catering for the ball was by chefs Les Pratt and Andy Chamings from Taylor's Restaurant in Tavistock, who also lent a great deal of hardware.

Capt Graham Dobie RM said he was 'gobsmacked and humbled' by the money raised; the RMCTF supports Royal Marines 'from cradle to grave' and Graham pointed out that there are now several hundred seriously wounded Marines who will need help for decades to come.
