A FOLLOW-UP to the article about George Lacey researched by Hilary and Mike Wreford (Times, January 24):-
Dave Travers told me that when he worked for International Stories during their rebuild of Beth Harrys' he found some old drawers from the upstairs at the back of the building which had come from where apprentices lived-in while in the employment of Mr Lacey.
On the side of a drawer was written the following:- I ? Seccombe, indentured to Mr Lacey for the sum of five years, which he was enabled to do, left my place of employment and made my way to Plymouth — 1847.
Dave gave the side of the drawer to Okehampton Museum some years ago.
