BATS men were forced into making two changes for their second match in the men?s division A of the Plymouth and District Badminton League and hoped for a better result at the end of the evening after the first match saw them defeated 3-9 by Devonshire.
Victoria Men?s team were BATS next opponents and with most of their players having played in division 1 of the mixed league it was going to be a tough one. In the first round of rubbers James Cooper and Alan Berry found scoring points difficult even though they could get the service back.
After losing the first game 5-15 they matched the Victoria pair in the second game but lost out 11-15. In the other pair of games Brian Gilbert and Mike Ward ran the Victoria pair extremely close but ended both games on the losing side 12-15, 13-15.
The second round of games saw the BATS pairs come back at the Victoria with both James and Brian (15-7) and Alan and Mike (15-13) taking the first game of each pair. But on both occasions the Victoria pairs came back to take the second games 10-15, 1-15.
The third round started in a similar vein with James and Mike again taking the first game 15-5 but falling short in the second game, which they lost 8-15. Alan and Brian found the pair they were up against too good for them and though they gained the service repeatedly they found scoring points difficult. They lost the games 7-15, 4-15.
Victoria beat BATS 9-3 in a difficult hall to play in but looking forward to the return fixture at home when they feel they have more of an advantage.
