THE annual challenge match between the captain and vice-captain of Okehampton Simmons Bowling Club took place on Sunday August 6. Under cloudy skies four rinks and a triple battled it out in the hope that they would give the honour of winning to the man who had chosen them. In a close fought game the team led by Colin Hutchings, vice-captain, eventually came on top, beating Don Phare, captain, by 101 to 95. The triples proved to be a tough fight with the team of A Davey, C Beer and led by Pam Jones getting a draw by winning the last end against the team led by husband Bill, who was supported by J King and M Wonnacott. For the vice captain the rink of A Hardwick, J Bliss, T Halton and skip R King won 17-25, while skip P Letchford with I Gill, K Marshall and J Westlake returned a winning card for the vice-captain 17-26. For the captain R Letchford, P Vincent, J Marles skipped by D Lower recorded a 24-21 win while the captain himself, playing with D Reason, G Hollis, P Weeks, beat the vice-captain and his team 25-17.
