A NEW campaign group last week warned it intends to interrupt military training on Dartmoor in an attempt to stop live firing. The Military Veterans Against Dartmoor Abuse (MVADA) claims it will camp out on moorland ranges on June 6 in an attempt to stop live firing. It says this action will be repeated at regular, but unnannounced, intervals. MVADA claims its already has 30 members, all of whom have served in the armed forces. No members? names have been released. In a statement, the group says: ?We are ashamed at the way the MoD has vandalised the very special landscape of Dartmoor.? It has called on other users of the moor to take similar action, though it emphasised that people should not put themselves in danger and warns them to give notice to the military if they intended walking on the moor on firing days. Dartmoor Preservation Association, which has long campaigned for the military to leave the moor, said it would continue to put pressure on the military but did not condone any action which was dangerous or illegal. An Army spokesman said the MoD had not received any official warning of the MVADA protest. The spokesman said the moor provided the military with ideal training conditions and that it had maximised public access to moorland combined with safety restrictions by providing information about live firing. ?The majority of people who live and work in and around Dartmoor are proud to support the British military and co-operate fully to ensure public safety.?
