TAVISTOCK travelled to Devonport Park on the back of some improved performances looking to reap the rewards their recent play has deserved.
The visitors threatened throughout the first half with Ethan Edwards and Stephen Price providing the width, and Josh Vernon looking to feed off the balls they put into the box; but the best opening of the half came from a long clearance by goalkeeper, Brad Monk, whose kick cleared the defence releasing Vernon who lobbed the ball over the keeper and just over the bar.
The midfield trio of Nick Cunningham, Ed Argles and Zak Musson worked hard to snuff out the Beacon midfielders, limiting their opportunities to long shots which never troubled Monk in the Thistles goal. However, on the stroke of half time Beacon were awarded a penalty. Monk dived to his left to smother the ball to make it goal-less at half-time.
Tavistock introduced fresh legs for the second half as Jonny Hake and Louis Wilson joined the fray and both were quickly involved as Tavistock looked to play on the counter attack and on the hour mark the visitors earned their reward. Monk gathered a loose ball and quickly released Wilson who drove into the Beacon half before releasing Vernon, who shrugged of a defender before rounding the keeper and firing home into an unguarded net.
Beacon threw players forward in numbers as they searched for an equaliser, but Cadan Lowther and Ian Harvey were solid at the heart of the Tavistock defence, whilst surging runs from full backs, Matt Havron and Jack Quinn troubled Beacon and relieved the pressure on Tavistock to ensure they took the points at the final whistle.
