Southgate 0
Hatherleigh Town 3
HATHERLEIGH made changes for this Okehampton Cup match with some second team players getting a chance to impress.
Michael Cooper came in at right back and had a solid game, while Dan Timms partnered Dymond up front and looked lively. The other change was in goal, where midfielder Matty Adams proved himself an able deputy for Sandercock.
Hatherleigh dominated most of the game and should have had more than three goals to show for it.
The first came after ten minutes. Jamie Bruce knocked a free kick into the penalty box from where a Southgate defender headed past his own keeper.
The second soon followed. Harris beat his marker on the left and crossed to the near post. Dymond challenged the defender for the header and the ball looped up to Vernon who headed into the top corner.
Goal three came when Graham Bryant crossed to Vernon. He nodded it inside to Dymond whose shot hit a defender and spun into the air. Watching the ball all the way was Vernon who crashed home a left-footed volley through the keeper?s legs.
With the game as good as over Hatherleigh should have increased their tally but a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping left the final score at 3-0 and sets up a home tie with Halwill.
