TAVISTOCK Ladies 1st Xl Hockey team played in a friendly match against Bude 2nd XI. Both teams had a variety of players with Tavistock recruiting numerous second team members and Bude recruiting first team members.

The game opened with Tavistock on the attack. Fiona Dunn had an excellent game and prevented the ball from entering the ?D? in the first half. Gabriella Murphy, goalkeeper, covered all aspects of the goal.

Laura Armstrong had some good lead runs up the pitch and was quick to put an early goal past the keeper.

The Eadie sisters had an excellent game on the left and Kate Eadie backtracked to hassle her player all the time. Once Olivia Eadie?s confidence picked up she was much more dominant during the match and fed some good balls back into the ?D?.

Mills and Dunn kept it tight at the back and were able to feed the ball to Becky Hutton and Julia Firth. These two players worked well and with a little more training should prove to be valuable members of the Tavistock Ladies squad.

White and Dunn had some good linking moves and were able to feed the ball across to Armstrong who scored again to put the score line to 2-0.

Numerous short corners were awarded but Tavistock were unable to capitalise on these early corners as the players were not running onto the goalposts to catch the rebound ball.

At half-time the team were optimistic that if they continued to play well and do some good team structured play that they should secure the match.

Bude decided to stick a player in the attacking ?D? and the odd time that this player received the ball to take a strike at Murphy she cleared the ball well with accuracy and a sense of calmness.

Olivia Eadie picked her game up in the second half and was instrumental in the scoring of the third goal from White. White took a hefty strike past the keeper. The fourth goal also came from White but the ball was dropped back out of the circle and the attack re-built from Armstrong, Butler and Eadie to allow White to score. Kate Eadie continued to play well and Hutton, despite falling over numerous times, continued to battle for the ball.

With the defence of Tavistock pushing up to the half way line and the midfield pushing up to the opposing ?D? all the forwards had to do was wait for the ball.

This happened as Stapleton hit a cracking shot to Armstrong who once again slotted it past the keeper with the greatest of ease.

The final score was 5-0 to Tavistock which considering the variety of players from both sides was a great result for Tavistock.

This week Tavistock are home at Bickleigh Barracks at 12.30pm with their first league match against St Agnes.

Player of the Match: Kate Eadie.
