IT'S not all marches and hymn tunes — that's the message Hatherleigh Silver Band hopes to get over with the release of its first CD on December 1.
It is six years since the band's last musical recording on tape and the CD 'No Matter What' contains everything from show songs like the title track from 'Whistle Down the Wind' to pop ballads like 'Yesterday' by the Beatles.
Musical director Adrian Edwards said people associated brass bands with marches and hymn tunes but their repertoire was in fact much more varied than that.
The recording took place in the Vine Church in Hatherleigh and involved 30 musicians spanning the ages of nine to 72.
Mr Edwards said the 18-track CD and its title also tied in with foot and mouth: 'There is a story about how the local community was devastated by disease but says we are bouncing back 'no matter what,' he said.
The proceeds from the CD, which will be available in local shops in time for Christmas, will be ploughed back into the band's coffers.
The next events Hatherleigh Silver Band will be appearing at are Hatherleigh Carnival on November 10 and the annual service of Remembrance at Hatherleigh Parish Church the following day.
These will be followed by a number of Christmas concerts around the area.
