A WEST Devon resident who regularly opens his gardens and grounds to the public to raise money for charity has criticised vandals who have attacked or removed advertisting signs to the event. Ian Dingle, of Portington Farm at Sydenham Damerel, said he and his wife had thrown open the gates of their property for more than 12 years, raising funds for a number of worthy causes. But for the last three years, direction signs informing the public of the event have been either vandalised or take away completely. Mr Dingle said: ?This year, thieves have stolen signs from some distance inside the grounds as well. ?It?s a shame, because it?s the charity they are affecting ? it?s very aggravating.? Mr Dingle will be opening his grounds on the afternoons of Sunday June 18 and Sunday June 25 under the National Garden Scheme ? this year a variety of charities will benefit, including Macmillan Nurses. Mr and Mrs Dingle will also be making a donation to the Samaritans in Plymouth. In addition to the beautiful walks around the woods and gardens, there will be a plant sale and refreshments. The gardens will be open between 2pm and 5.30pm.
