?SENSELESS? vandals this week attacked Tavistock?s Molly Owen Centre for the second time in a month, smashing greenhouses used by students.

Molly Owen manager Patrick McLoughlin said damage caused at the property would run into several hundred pounds.

Mr McLoughlin said: 'We have two greenhouses ? a few weeks ago, part of one of them was smashed and our wheelie bin was thrown down the road ? and last night (Tuesday), the second greenhouse was attacked.

'The students themselves were really upset when they came in and found the damage and for it to happen a second time is really disappointing.

?The wheelie bin was irritating, but to damage panes of glass for absolutely no reason just doesn?t make sense.?

Mr McLaughlin said the students raise plants in the greenhouses which are sold, or sometimes given as presents.

He said the main greenhouse had toughened glass and considerable force would have to have been used to smash the panes.

?All the staff and clients are aware of what?s happened and we can?t believe people would be that senseless. We?ve had the greenhouses for a number of years and up to now they?ve been absolutely fine.

?It?s only the last few months we?ve begun to have damage carried out. For the clients and staff, it?s really upsetting.?

PC Martin King said the incident was an act of ?mindless vandalism?.

He said extra patrols would be policing the area whenever possible and asked anyone with any information on the incident to call police, quoting crime ref JT03882.
