AN exhibition looking back at the history and celebrating the importance of the market gardening industry of the Tamar Valley starts this month at the Tamar Valley Centre.
The 'Land of Opportunity' exhibition builds upon the Market Gardening project, completed in 2003 with the publication of Sovereigns, Madams and Double Whites, and highlights its outcomes and achievements.
Sam Barnes, project officer for the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) team, said: 'We are using this exhibition as a springboard to raise awareness of other projects we hope to deliver, with the help of volunteers, increasing understanding of our valued market gardening here in the valley.'
The Tamar Valley AONB team hopes that the exhibition will inspire people to volunteer to research, record, write about and help promote market gardening. It has been organised, and will be run by valley volunteers.
Land of Opportunity runs from April 8 to 17 (weekdays only), from 11am to 4pm, at the Tamar Valley Centre at Drakewalls. Tamar Grow Local will also be exhibiting during this time.
In addition, Calstock Parish Archive will showcase images and resources they hold on the topic.
