I HAVE lived and grown up in Okehampton and have been here for over 19 years now.
Over the years I have seen and been frustrated by many many things that have come and gone around the area. I have always just thought, oh well, but now I have had enough and want to express my points.
The most obvious thing over the years is traffic development and other projects. How many thousands and thousands of pounds have been wasted by our incompetent council on road improvements that last a year and then are replaced the following year?
Also, projects such as the new toilets in Fairplace? How long will it be before the mindless idiots that hang around Okehampton at nights decide that it will be fun to smash up and burn down the costly project? These are but a few over 19 years.
This cash should be used to improve standards at our schools or projects that will benefit the town?s people, not just add 15 minutes to a journey that should take three.
In response to a letter in the Okehampton Times (January 16): shopkeepers in Red Lion Yard don?t dare clear ice or snow now because in our modern ?sue for anything? society if a shopkeeper does clear the area and a member of the public slips or falls they can and most probably will sue for damages.
As this area won?t be covered by a shop?s public liability insurance the owner would be responsible for any damages personally. Therefore no shopkeeper in their right mind would risk clearing the snow even though in theory it would be safer!
