LEADING members of West Devon Borough Council held urgent talks with the region?s two MPs last Friday, pending a crucial government funding announcement. The borough is facing a potential cash crisis, having forecast unavoidable cost pressures of more than £900,000 next year, on top of the annual £6.3-million budget for the services it already provides. The leader of the council?s Independent group, Cllr Peter Hill, the Liberal Democrat Cllr Jane Waterhouse and leader of the Conservative group, Cllr Dick Eberlie, met West Devon and Torridge MP John Burnett and South West Devon MP Gary Streeter to discuss the funding issue. An announcement on how much money the council can expect to receive from central government is due to be announced today (Thursday).
