Ivybridge seconds 29
Tavistock second 17
TAVISTOCK were caught napping early on allowing the Ivybridge scrum half cross on the blind within the first 10 minutes to go put them 5-0 up.
The visitors got into the action with a well worked kick-off leading to Charlie Furnival going over in the corner; this was duly converted out wide by Ed Kirk.
Pressure continued from Ivybridge but strong defence from a hard working Tavistock back row of Charlsworth, Friend and Chin held them short. Unfortunately Tavi were victims of an overlap and it was 10-7 to Ivybridge.
With the bit between their teeth the Tavistock forwards used the full width of the pitch to go over in the corner finished off by the impressive Calder-Potts. Strong tackling and hard rucking just inside the Ivybridge half from Patrick Hobbs and Will Tompkins forced a penalty and a quick tap from John Bellamy ended with a good individual try and make it a deserved 10-17 lead at half time.
In the second half Tavistock played uphill continued where they left off with aggressive running from Wakem keeping them on the front foot with good control between forwards and back from Niall Murphy. With Tavistock tiring uphill a strong scrum from Ivybridge on the Tavistock line lead to a penalty try converted to tie the scores.
With exciting phases of open play it could have gone either way but the bounce of the ball went to Ivybridge and two quick scores sealed the game for them.
A strong display and team performance from Tavistock fell just short and flattered Ivybridge with the score in an even contest, which was great game to watch with quick flowing rugby.
