A NEW information pack aimed at teenagers with epilepsy has been launched.

The free advice pack called 'Upfront' was compiled by the British Epilepsy Association and offers advice to young people with epilepsy as they move through school, college and into adult life.

Audrey Giles, from Tavistock, who has epilepsy, said that as a teenager she could have benefited from the sort of information and support on offer to youngsters today.

'I just think there is an enormous need for all people with epilepsy but particularly teenagers to have information about education, employment and other important issues,' she said.

Mrs Giles said the pack would also help if it gave friends, teachers and employers a greater knowledge of epilepsy.

The pack in a handy CD case includes helpful advice on learning to drive, choosing a career, alcohol, relationships and contraception, issues where young people with epilepsy need access to the facts.

The pack also explains what epilepsy is, what the different types of seizure are and what to do if someone has a seizure.

The British Epilepsy Association says it hopes the pack will have a positive impact, helping epileptic teenagers who may feel isolated, by enabling them to feel educated and empowered about their condition.

The information pack is available by calling the association's free Helpline. The number is 0808 800 5050, and callers can also speak to a trained advice and information officer about

epilepsy.
