DOZENS of multi-coloured balloons took to the air recently from Horrabridge Primary School.

The 150 blue, orange and white helium balloons released from the school were among more than 10,000 released from 100 South West primary schools and marked the launch of the new South West of England Regional Development Agency.

Borne on a strong north easterly breeze, many of the balloons were destined for the continent. If the winning balloon comes from Horrabridge, a governor has promised the child a 'very large' bar of chocolate, while the school stands to win a new Internet-ready computer.

Governor Maggi Calvert said: 'The school always tries to include the local environment, community issues and history into curriculum themes and projects.

'This was a fun event which helped the children understand the importance of the region in which they are living and we were pleased to support the launch of the South West of England Regional Agency.'
